The route of the Fisterra-Muxía Way has been definitively approved

The Council of the Xunta de Galicia definitively approved, in its meeting on September 1, 2026, the layout project for the common sections of the Fisterra-Muxía Way, reference 2025/016. The decision was published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (Diario Oficial de Galicia) number 173, on September 11, 2026, through the Resolution of September 3, 2026, of the Tourism Agency of Galicia, which orders the publication of the agreement.

The definitive approval implies the declaration of public utility, the need for occupation of assets, and the urgency of occupation, for the purposes of expropriation, temporary occupation, or the imposition or modification of easements, according to the provisions of article 23.1 of Law 18/2021, of December 27, on fiscal and administrative measures.

Background of the procedure

The project was submitted for public information on May 5, 2026, when the announcement of April 17, 2026, was published in DOG number 82, along with the individual list of affected assets, rights, and owners. Once the process was concluded, the Council of the Xunta adopted the definitive approval that is now being made public.

Affected municipalities and urban adaptation

Pursuant to article 24 of Law 18/2021, the municipalities in which the infrastructures subject to the project are located must adapt their urban planning to its content within one year and, in any case, in its first modification or revision. The affected municipalities are:

• Cee
• Corcubión
• Dumbría
• Mazaricos
• Muxía
• Negreira
• Santiago de Compostela

Appeals and deadlines

The agreement, which ends the administrative route, may be challenged before the High Court of Justice of Galicia through a contentious-administrative appeal within two months of publication. Previously and optionally, a motion for reconsideration may be filed within one month, in accordance with Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the common administrative procedure. The agreement was signed by José Manuel Merelles Remy, director of the Tourism Agency of Galicia.

The definitive approval of the layout represents a key step for the consolidation of the Fisterra-Muxía Way as a Jacobean itinerary, by guaranteeing the protection of heritage and enabling the execution of the necessary works in the seven involved municipalities.
