Andalusia renames two university faculties for the 2026/2027 academic year
Por FactBox Admin

The Governing Council of the Regional Government of Andalusia has approved Decree 485/2026, of August 31, which agrees on the modification of centers in Andalusian public universities starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. The regulation, published in the Official Gazette of the Regional Government of Andalusia (BOJA) number 172, of September 4, 2026, renames two faculties of the University of Córdoba and the University of Granada.
The decree, promoted by the Ministry of University, Industry, Energy and Innovation, was signed by the President of the Regional Government, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, and by the Minister Jorge Paradela Gutiérrez, and takes effect on the day of its publication.
Centers changing their name
The regulation agrees on the new designation of two university centers:
- The “Faculty of Medicine and Nursing” of the University of Córdoba shall be renamed the “Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Physiotherapy”.
- The “Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences of Melilla” of the University of Granada shall be renamed the “Faculty of Social Sciences and Digital Technologies of Melilla”.
The decree specifies that the change in designation does not affect the teaching leading to the obtaining of official university degrees taught in these centers, which will remain the same.
Legal framework and processing
The modification is based on Article 53 of the Statute of Autonomy for Andalusia, which grants the Autonomous Community shared competence for the creation, modification, and suppression of university centers. It is also supported by Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the University System, and Law 1/2026, of February 20, University Law for Andalusia, which requires that these changes be agreed upon by decree of the Governing Council.
The proposals were requested by both universities and received favorable reports from their respective Governing Councils and Social Councils, as well as from the Andalusian Council of Universities. The text also incorporates the gender perspective in accordance with Law 12/2007, of November 26.
Deadlines and appeals
Within fifteen days of its publication, the Regional Government will inform the General Conference on University Policy of the decree. Against the regulation, which ends the administrative route, an optional appeal for reversal may be filed within one month or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months.
The reorganization of the Andalusian academic offer reinforces the identity of the centers and their adaptation to new areas of knowledge, such as physiotherapy in Córdoba or digital technologies in Melilla, within a context of renewing the regional university map for the next course.
