Por FactBox Admin

Euskal Agintaritzak (Agencia Vasca del Agua) has published the flood defence project for the Amezketa river in Alegia in the Boletín Oficial del País Vasco (BOPV-2026/3635), on 17 August 2026. The body directed by Asier López Etxebarria initially approved this project through a resolution dated 31 July 2026, and it is now open to the public for ten natural days.

Objective and scope of the project

The project’s main objective is to improve the hydraulic function and conveyance capacity of the Amezketa river, adapted to a 100-year return period. In this way, flooding is to be prevented around the former school of the Fundación Franconi Foundation. Currently, the retaining walls of the access bridge to the school are located within the riverbed, which creates hydraulic problems.

Technical solutions

The technical solution has three main components:

  • Creating a berm on the right bank to increase the river’s conveyance capacity
  • Replacing the access bridge to the school with a longer one, to improve the hydraulic cross-section
  • Recovering the public walkway on the left bank and installing green areas, taking advantage of the bridge works

Environmental impact assessment and public consultation period

The project will undergo a Simplified Environmental Assessment, based on section 7.2 c) of Law 21/2013, and will follow Title V of Law 10/2021. The public information period is 20 natural days, starting from the day after the publication of this notice, during which interested parties may submit any allegations they deem appropriate.
