Alhendín calls for the election of the Titular Justice of the Peace

The Alhendín City Council has published the public call for the election of the person who will hold the position of Chief Justice of the Peace for four years, following the completion of the current term. The announcement appears in the Official Gazette of the Province of Granada, number 170, dated Thursday, September 3, 2026, with the official reference BOP-GRA-2026-170002.
The procedure begins following the communication sent on July 21, 2026, by the Government Secretariat of the High Court of Justice of Andalusia, Ceuta, and Melilla (Granada), registered at the town hall on July 24, urging the processing of the appointment file as the four-year term has expired. The Mayoral Resolution of July 30, 2026, approved the call, in accordance with Article 5 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, on Justices of the Peace, in relation to Article 21.1.s) of the Law on the Bases of the Local Regime.
Requirements for Applicants
Those who, even without being law graduates, meet the conditions required by the Organic Law of the Judiciary for entry into the judicial career and do not incur causes of incapacity or incompatibility may apply for the position. The specific requirements are:
- Possess Spanish nationality.
- Be of legal age.
- Not be subject to the causes of incapacity under Article 303 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary (physical or psychological impediment, conviction for an intentional crime without rehabilitation, prosecution, or lack of full exercise of civil rights).
- Not incur the incompatibilities and prohibitions of Articles 389 to 397 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary and Article 14 of Regulation 3/1995.
The position is incompatible with the practice of law, court representation (procuraduría), any commercial activity or paid position, and justices of the peace may not belong to political parties or trade unions.
Submission of Applications
Applications must be submitted to the General Registry of the Alhendín City Council or through any of the means specified in Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure, within a period of fifteen business days starting from the day following the publication in the provincial gazette. The application must be accompanied by:
- Photocopy of the DNI (ID card).
- Documents certifying the studies completed.
- Current profession or trade (indicating if unemployed or retired).
- Birth certificate.
- Criminal record certificate.
- Medical certificate or report stating that the applicant does not suffer from any illness that incapacitates them from exercising the position.
The remuneration will be the amount established for this concept in the General State Budget Law.
Election and Publication
The submitted applications will be subject to the consideration of the Plenary of the City Council, following a report-proposal from the General Information Commission, which will carry out the election of the Titular and Substitute Justice of the Peace from among those who meet the legal requirements, with the favorable vote of the absolute majority of its members, in accordance with article 101.2 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary. The call for applications will be made public in the provincial bulletin, on the town hall’s notice board, in the Dean’s Court of Granada, and in the Justice of the Peace Court of Alhendín itself. The decree, signed on August 4, 2026, by the mayor-president Jorge Rafael Sánchez Hernández, incorporates the application model and responsible declaration SO-JPazT.
The election of the Justice of the Peace is key for the administration of proximity justice in Alhendín, as this body handles minor matters and conciliation acts within the municipality. The renewal of the position guarantees the continuity of the local judicial service for the next four years.
