Alcalá de los Gazules acoge una planta de almacenamiento de 130 MWh

The Territorial Delegation of Economy, Finance, European Funds and of Industry, Energy and Mines in Cádiz has submitted for public information the prior administrative authorization and the administrative construction authorization for the storage facility “BESS HIBRIDACIÓN GAZULES I”, promoted by GAZULES I FOTOVOLTAICA, S.L. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cádiz number 174, dated September 9, 2026, and opens a thirty-day period for the submission of allegations.

The processing is framed within Law 24/2013, of December 26, of the Electricity Sector, and Royal Decree 1955/2000, of December 1, which regulates the authorization procedures for electrical energy installations. The plant, located in the municipality of Alcalá de los Gazules (Cádiz), is conceived as an electrical energy storage system using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, with a total capacity of 130.35 MWh and an installed capacity of 32.59 MW, positioning it as an energy storage milestone in the province.

Technical characteristics of the plant

The installation consists of several storage containers with LFP batteries, incorporating the corresponding converters (PCS) to transform direct current into alternating current and a power station that raises the voltage to the 30 kV required for its charging and discharging. The most relevant technical parameters are:

  • Total storage capacity: 130.35 MWh
  • Installed capacity: 32.59 MW
  • Charge or discharge time: 4 hours
  • 32 LFP battery containers of 4,073.47 kWh each
  • Maximum efficiency: 99.2%
  • Power station: 1 transformer of 4,400 kVA, 0.66/30 kV, and 8 units with protection and line cells of 36 kV

Evacuation infrastructure

To connect the plant to the distribution network, a new sectioning center and an underground evacuation line to the granted connection point are planned. The line runs from the new sectioning center to the existing “LA MIRANDA” substation, with the following characteristics:

  • 30 kV evacuation line (maximum design 36 kV), underground in conduit, 752 meters long, with RH5Z1 AL 18/36 kV cable
  • New prefabricated concrete sectioning center, with three line cells and modular gas-insulated and switching cells
  • Location of the center in UTM ETRS89 coordinates, zone 30

Period for allegations

The case documentation may be examined at the Energy Service of the Territorial Delegation in Cádiz, at calle Fernando el Católico, 3, 2nd floor, and is also available on the transparency portal of the Junta de Andalucía. Allegations may be submitted within a period of thirty days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement. The announcement is signed by the territorial delegate in Cádiz, María Inmaculada Olivero Corral, dated August 3, 2026.

The Alcalá de los Gazules plant joins the province of Cádiz’s commitment to energy storage as a complement to renewable installations, a milestone that will allow for better management of photovoltaic generation and reinforce the stability of the electricity supply. The final resolution will depend on the outcome of the public information period and the allegations presented.
