Alcázar de San Juan provides housing and transport grants for 14 displaced university students
Por FactBox Admin

The City Council of Alcázar de San Juan has announced 14 housing grants and 14 transport grants for young people registered as residents in the municipality who are pursuing undergraduate university studies outside the town during the 2026/2027 academic year. The summary of the call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Ciudad Real (BOP) number 209, dated October 29, 2026, with the identification number BDNS 938379 in the National Grants Database. The deadline for submitting applications is twenty calendar days from the date of that publication.
The call is based on articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17, and is processed under a competitive bidding regime. The municipal Social Services acts as the instructing body and the Local Government Board is the competent body to resolve, with a maximum period of three months starting from the day following the conclusion of the application period. The provisional resolution proposal will be published on the electronic headquarters notice board, with ten days allowed for allegations.
Amounts and Budgetary Allocation
The grants are charged to the budgetary application 23101/48003, titled Housing and Transport Grants for Young University Students, of the municipal budget. The total amount allocated to the call is 24,220.00 euros, of which 7,140.00 euros correspond to the 2026 budget and 17,080.00 euros to the 2027 budget.
- 14 housing grants of 170 euros per month, for nine months, from October 2026 to June 2027, for a total of 1,530 euros per grant.
- 14 transport grants of 200 euros, paid in a single installment and intended for the cost of travel during the 2026/2027 academic year.
- Only the public transport option is subsidized.
- Payment is post-payable: it is paid after justifying the expense through invoices and proof of payment.
Requirements to Access the Grants
Applicants must meet a series of conditions that must be maintained throughout the entire process:
- The student and at least one of their parents must be registered as residents in Alcázar de San Juan or in the EATIM of Cinco Casas, with a minimum seniority of two years.
- To be 18 years of age by December 31, 2026.
- To be enrolled with a minimum of 50 credits in faculties of the University of Castilla-La Mancha or in studies not offered there.
- To be up to date with taxes and obligations to the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) and the General Treasury of the Social Security (TGSS).
- Not to be a beneficiary of the residence grant from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports for the 2026/2027 academic year, although tuition aid is permitted.
- Not to receive any other university housing aid.
- Master’s students may not apply.
In the case of students staying in public or private residences, the aid covers the proportional part of the cost of the accommodation service, excluding board.
Assessment and justification criteria
The only assessment criterion established in the guidelines is the lowest per capita income of the family unit, calculated based on the number of members and the family’s income. Deductions for large families, disability, and age are applied to the family income.
Applications are formalized using model ANNEX I and may be submitted at the municipal Registry office, through the electronic office, or by any of the means specified in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1. The justification of expenses is carried out according to model ANNEX IV. The grants are incompatible with other subsidies from public institutions with the same object and purpose, and non-compliance will lead to full or partial reimbursement with late-payment interest.
Impact on families
The call for applications reaches families with university students who have relocated during a course that has already begun: the accommodation scholarship calendar starts in October 2026 and extends until June 2027, such that the payment of the first monthly installment corresponds to the same month as the publication. Furthermore, the City Council will send information regarding the award resolutions to the National Subsidy Database, as required by article 20 of Law 38/2003. With 24,220 euros and 28 grants at stake, the margin is tight: only 14 students will be able to access each of the two modalities.
