Aerothermal energy: Sant Joan de Vilatorrada will replace the gas boiler

The City Council of Sant Joan de Vilatorrada has submitted to public information the executive project to replace the gas boiler with an aerothermal heat pump, with a base tender budget of €715,495.18, VAT included. The notice, initially approved by the Plenary of the Corporation on May 28, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB) of August 4, 2026, with the official reference CVE 202610127526. Interested parties have 30 business days to review the file and submit allegations.

The project —“Executive project for an aerothermal heat pump to replace the gas boiler and other installations in the production of heating and cooling at the City Council of Sant Joan de Vilatorrada”— is covered by articles 36 to 38 of the ROAS (Regulations on works, activities and services of local bodies), which regulate public information for municipal works projects. The document received initial approval from the Plenary of the Corporation on May 28, 2026, and is now placed on public display before its final approval.

A commitment to aerothermal energy in municipal facilities

The action entails abandoning a fossil fuel source, the gas boiler, and installing an aerothermal heat pump, a renewable technology that harnesses the energy from outdoor air to produce heating and also cooling. With this change, the council takes a step forward in the energy transition of its facilities and eliminates gas consumption in the production of heating and cooling for the municipal building stock.

30-business-day period for allegations

In accordance with the ROAS, the notice has been published in the BOPB, in one of the most widely circulated newspapers in the province, and on the City Council’s notice board. The period for submitting allegations and suggestions is 30 business days, counted from the last publication.

During the public information period, interested parties may consult the project and submit allegations:

The announcement, signed on 23 July 2026 by the mayor, Jordi Solernou Vilalta, stresses that, once the deadline has passed without objections or suggestions, the project will be definitively approved. Publication in the official gazette thus opens the final phase of participation before the action is consolidated.

With an estimated investment of more than €715,000, Sant Joan de Vilatorrada is taking a major step towards electrifying and decarbonising the heating and cooling systems of its municipal facilities. Citizens and businesses now have the opportunity to review the project and make contributions before it becomes final.
