Mining permit La Solana admitted in four municipalities of Burgos

The Junta de Castilla y León, through the Territorial Service of Industry, Commerce and Economy of Burgos, has definitively admitted the mining research permit “La Solana” No. 4,944, according to the announcement published in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (BOCYL) of Thursday, August 13, 2026. The admission, agreed on June 8, 2026, affects 12 mining grid squares distributed among Castil de Peones, Briviesca, Quintanavides and Reinoso and opens a 30-day period for public participation on the Restoration Plan.
The announcement is inserted in the announcements section of issue 156 of the BOCYL, within the area of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, and was signed on July 27, 2026 in Burgos by the head of the territorial service, M.ª Dolores Velasco Lajo. The procedure is processed in accordance with article 51.1 of Law 22/1973, of July 21, on Mines, and with article 70.2 of the General Regulations for the Mining Regime, approved by Royal Decree 2857/1978, of August 25, and is likewise disseminated for the purposes of article 6 of Royal Decree 975/2009, of June 12, on public participation in the authorization of restoration plans.
The “La Solana” permit and its promoter
Permit No. 4,944, named “La Solana”, is promoted by Hormigones Premezclados Alava, S. A. and covers the research of mineral resources of Section C). The essential data of the file are:
- Mining Research Permit No. 4,944, name “La Solana”.
- Section C) resources: siliceous sands, quartzitic aggregates, limestones, kaolins and calcium carbonate.
- Surface area: 12 mining grid squares.
- Affected municipal districts: Castil de Peones, Briviesca, Quintanavides and Reinoso.
- Promoter: Hormigones Premezclados Alava, S. A.
The definitive admission, dated June 8, 2026, certifies that the applicant meets the requirements to investigate the subsoil of the 12 grid squares included in those four municipal districts of the province of Burgos.
One month to examine the file
The announcement allows anyone with the status of interested party to examine the file for 30 days from the date of publication, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Mining Section of the Territorial Service of Industry, Commerce and Economy of Burgos, at Plaza de Bilbao No. 3, 09006 Burgos. The documentation may also be consulted on the website of the Junta de Castilla y León, in the Energy and Mining section corresponding to Burgos.
Observations and opinions on the authorization of the Restoration Plan may be submitted through the same channel within the aforementioned period to the territorial service, the competent body for authorizing said plan. This procedure, provided for in Royal Decree 975/2009, guarantees that the restoration of the land is defined and subject to public consultation before the extractive activity is authorized.
Scope of the decision
With definitive admission, the “La Solana” permit is incorporated into the mining investigation regime of the province of Burgos as a previous step to the eventual exploitation of section C) resources in the four affected municipalities. The resolution, signed on 27 July 2026, was made public under the official reference BOCYL-D-13082026-156-8.
The news is of direct interest to the residents of Castil de Peones, Briviesca, Quintanavides and Reinoso, as well as to the local and environmental entities in the area, which have one month to examine the file and comment on the plan that will restore the land after the future mining activity. Through this publication, the BOCYL guarantees the transparency of the procedure before the restoration of the affected soil is authorized.
