The Xunta declares the Caniza business park of regional interest
Por FactBox Admin

The Council of the Xunta de Galicia has declared the creation of a business area called “Parque empresarial da Caniza”, in the municipality of Caniza (Pontevedra), with a delimited area of 846,534.08 square meters, to be of regional interest. The agreement, adopted at the meeting on July 13, 2026, was made known through the Resolution of October 22, 2026 of the General Directorate of Industrial Strategy and Business Land, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra (BOPPO) no. 209, of October 29, 2026.
The publication is made in compliance with article 42.4 of Law 1/2021, of January 8, on the territorial planning of Galicia, a regulation that governs the declaration of projects of regional interest. According to the text of the agreement, the project meets the conditions required by article 41 of the same law to achieve this declaration.
The issuing body of the resolution is the General Directorate of Industrial Strategy and Business Land, dependent on the Ministry of Economy and Industry of the Xunta de Galicia. The document is signed in Santiago de Compostela by the general director, Bruno Fernández González, and bears the secure verification code QBTNBYJS9ZAOMNTS.
What the declaration implies
The agreement of the Council of the Xunta contains two specific pronouncements:
- To declare the creation of a business area called “Parque empresarial da Caniza” in the municipality of Caniza (Pontevedra) to be of regional interest.
- To designate the Ministry of Economy and Industry as the competent body by reason of the subject matter for the processing of the file, which must comply with the established legal procedure.
The action consists of the implementation of a business park in the municipality of Caniza. The technical document provided with the file —prepared to justify the declaration— supports the regional interest of the initiative based on several arguments, including the contribution to regional economic development and the promotion of territorial connection.
Land demand and Zona Franca
The technical justification also emphasizes the suitability of the proposed location, the demand for business land in the area, and the exhaustion of land in the nearby business area. To this is added, according to the published agreement, the capacity of the Zona Franca de Vigo to promote the action.
The procedure was processed in accordance with article 42 of Law 1/2021, which regulates the steps prior to the declaration. The resolution is limited to publicizing the agreement of the Council of the Xunta and does not detail in the published text the urbanization calendar nor the regime of affected owners.
Deadlines for appeal
The agreement ends the administrative route and opens two possibilities for challenge, with the period counted from the day following the notification or publication:
- Optional appeal for reconsideration, within a period of one month, in accordance with articles 123 and 124 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the common administrative procedure.
- Contentious-administrative appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Galicia, within a period of two months, in accordance with articles 10, 14, and 46.1 of Law 29/1998, of July 13.
The published text presents a discrepancy in dates: the resolution dates the agreement of the Council of the Xunta as July 13, 2026, although in a passage of the same document it refers to the meeting of June 13, 2026.
The declaration of regional interest places the Caniza business park within the accelerated administrative circuit provided for in Galician land-use planning legislation, which directly affects landowners and companies interested in industrial land in the surroundings of the Deza region. From now on, the Ministry of Economy and Industry assumes the processing of the file, and any allegation or appeal must be directed through that channel, within the deadlines established in the agreement itself.
