The Xunta grants 249 BEME scholarships to Galician youth abroad

The General Secretariat for Emigration, under the Department of Employment, Trade and Emigration, resolved on September 4, 2026, the call for excellence scholarships for youth abroad (BEME), intended for Galician men and women residing outside of Galicia who wish to pursue a master’s degree at a Galician public university in the 2026/27 academic year. The resolution, signed by the general secretary Antonio Rodríguez Miranda, grants 249 scholarships and denies 263 applications, and was published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) no. 171, of September 9, 2026, p. 48355 (CVE-DOG reference: wr4dlky0-pms6-qsj7-uhs7-nbzac9tdc5u0).

A call for 250 places

The regulatory bases and the call were approved by the Resolution of December 18, 2025, of the General Secretariat for Emigration, which provided for 250 excellence scholarships for youth abroad (DOG no. 9, of January 15, 2026). The Evaluation Commission, constituted under article 14 of the resolution, evaluated the applications that met the requirements and, in its meeting on June 17, 2026, prepared a report with the priority of applications based on the score obtained.

The General Sub-directorate for Return, as the instructing body, formulated the proposal for resolution once the proof of enrollment in the different master’s degrees of the three Galician public universities had been received and the submitted allegations examined.

Granting and denial

• 249 people listed in Annex I receive a scholarship to pursue the indicated master’s degrees at the corresponding university, with the amount indicated in each case.
• 263 applications in Annex II are denied for not meeting the established requirements or due to withdrawal, with the reason indicated in each case.

The beneficiaries are those who obtained the highest scores and justified their enrollment in a master’s degree offered within the established period. Payment will be made to the bank account indicated by the beneficiary, within the planned deadlines and once the supporting documentation has been presented according to article 20 of the resolution.

Amounts and universities

The scholarships are distributed among the three Galician public universities —USC, UDC, and UVigo— and the amounts vary according to the master’s credits:

• Master’s degrees of 60 credits: €6,000 in the 2026 annual period and €2,500 in 2027 (€8,500 in total).
• Master’s degrees of 90 credits: €6,000 in the 2026 annual period and €6,500 in 2027 (€12,500 in total).

Among the master’s degrees offered are, for example, SME Management, Nutrition, Cultural Services, Aquaculture, Cybersecurity, Bioinformatics for Health Sciences, or Sports Business Management, with beneficiaries residing in countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba, Netherlands, or the Dominican Republic.

Obligations and appeals

The beneficiaries are obliged to comply with article 21 of the resolution of the call; non-compliance may lead to partial or total reimbursement, under the terms of article 22. An optional appeal for reversal may be filed before the same body within one month of its publication, or a contentious-administrative appeal before the Superior Court of Justice of Galicia within two months, in accordance with Law 29/1998, of July 13.

This resolution closes a key call for the Galician diaspora, by facilitating the educational return of hundreds of young men and women from abroad and strengthening the link between emigrated Galician communities and the universities of Galicia.
