The Xunta awards seven grants for Galician language lectureships in foreign universities

The Ministry of Culture, Language and Youth has awarded seven training grants for readerships in Galician language, literature and culture for the year 2026, in a resolution signed on September 16, 2026, by the General Secretary of Language, Valentín García Gómez. The Official Gazette of Galicia publishes the full text in issue 183, Friday, September 25, 2026, with the official reference CVE-DOG: r0luohv3-ucn7-0uh6-jse8-umys3ar4sro0. The grants allow university graduates to train in Galician study centers located in universities outside of Galicia.

The call is governed by the Order of May 15, 2026, of the Ministry of Culture, Language and Youth, published in the Official Gazette of Galicia issue 99, May 29, 2026, which approves the bases and announces the public call for training grants for readerships in Galician language, literature and culture for the year 2026, with procedure code PL500E. The procedure is processed under a competitive bidding regime and is subject to the principles of publicity, objectivity, transparency, equality, merit and capacity.

The resolution was issued by the head of the General Secretariat of Language by delegation of the head of the Ministry, following the proposal of the instructing body. The final proposal was submitted by the deputy general director of Linguistic Policy, in compliance with article 18.2 of the order, accompanied by the minutes of the Valuation Commission constituted under article 16.5. The instruction and auditing of the file concluded with the resolution of September 16, 2026, which ends the procedure.

Seven readerships in four countries

Annex I of the resolution lists the awardees, the destination center, the period of enjoyment and the NIF, which is published partially hidden. The destinations are distributed among Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Croatia:

• University of Algarve (Portugal): Inés Pena Franco, from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2029.
• Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain): Iván Regueiro Barreiro, from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2029.
• University of Barcelona (Spain): Sara Coego Muñoz, from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2029.
• University of Extremadura (Spain): Christian Martínez Sotuela, from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2029.
• Nova University of Lisbon (Portugal): Isaura Framil de Amorín, from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2029.
• State University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil): Andrea Gamallo Valladares, from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029.
• University of Zadar (Croatia): Joel Rodríguez Campo, from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2029.

Publication, notification and appeals

This resolution orders publication in the Official Gazette of Galicia, posting on the website of the General Secretariat for Language, and notification to the destination universities, as established in article 18 of the call for applications order. As this is a competitive bidding procedure, the publication serves as notification, in accordance with article 45 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the common administrative procedure of public administrations.

The resolution exhausts the administrative route. Interested parties may file an optional appeal for reversal before the head of the Department of Culture, Language and Youth within one month, counted from the day following its publication in the Official Gazette of Galicia, or directly a contentious-administrative appeal before the High Court of Justice of Galicia within two months, according to Law 29/1998, of July 13.

The lectureship grants are the primary means for university graduates to teach and disseminate Galician language and culture in foreign universities, and simultaneously an instrument of the General Secretariat for Language to maintain the academic presence of Galician outside of Galicia. The publication of the award closes the 2026 procedure and opens the three-year training period in the seven destination centers.
