A USC abre concursos de profesorado asociado en Dereito Penal e Psiquiatría

The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) announces public competitions for the provision of two associate professor positions in the areas of Criminal Law and Psychiatry. The call is published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) no. 188, of October 2, 2026, in section IV, Oppositions and competitions, by means of the Resolution of September 24, 2026, of the Compostelan rectorate (reference CVE-DOG: pesbvl64-kls4-dsw1-5m45-gdifflyjfvs3). Interested persons have ten business days from the day following the publication to submit the application.

The resolution was issued by the USC rectorate in compliance with what was agreed by the Governing Council in the session of July 17, 2026, and is signed by Pablo Taboada Antelo, Vice-Rector for Faculty and Teaching Innovation, by delegation of the rector (Resolution of 8.5.2026, DOG of 20.5.2026). The competition is governed by Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the university system (LOSU), by Law 2/2015, of April 29, on public employment in Galicia, by Decree 266/2002, of September 6, on the hiring of university faculty, and by the USC Faculty Selection Regulations, approved on October 11, 2023.

The maximum period to resolve the competition is three months from the publication in the DOG, and the month of August is considered a non-working month for the publication of calls, the submission of applications, and the calculation of deadlines.

Two positions in Santiago: Criminal Law and Psychiatry

Annex I.1 details the two announced competitions, both with a single position, P3 dedication, and based in Santiago de Compostela:

  • Competition 4HS/26-27: one position (code HS0097) in the area of Criminal Law, in the Department of Special Public Law and Business, with a profile in the subjects of Criminal Law, general part, and special part (crimes against the person, property, and socio-economic order). Qualification: degree or bachelor’s in Law. Center: Faculty of Law.
  • Competition 5HS/26-27: one position (code HS0184) in the area of Psychiatry, in the Department of Psychiatry, Radiology, Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine. Qualification: degree or bachelor’s in Medicine, with a specialty in Psychiatry. Center: Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

Requirements, fees, and submission of applications

In addition to the general requirements for access to public employment, applicants must prove the status of a specialist of recognized competence with professional practice outside the university academic sphere, an activity that must be maintained during the term of the contract. Knowledge of the two official languages of the USC is also required, accredited with Celga 3 for Galician and a B2 certificate in Spanish.

  • Deadline: ten working days from the day following the publication in the DOG.
  • Method: exclusively electronic, through the PDI selective tests application of the USC electronic office.
  • Fee: 44.17 euros per competition.
  • Total exemption: persons with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33% and members of special category large families.
  • 50% bonus: general category large families and job seekers for at least six months prior to the call who do not receive benefits or subsidies.

Selection process in two phases and selection committees

The procedure consists of two eliminatory phases: the evaluation of the curriculum according to the scale in Annex II (academic performance, positions held, teaching quality, research experience, professional experience, and other merits) and an oral presentation of a teaching activities project, for a maximum of twenty minutes, followed by a debate of up to forty-five minutes with the committee.

The selection committees are listed in Annex I.2. For the Criminal Law position, the titular committee is chaired by Fernando Antonio Vázquez-Portomeñe Seijas and completed by Natalia Pérez Rivas, Miguel Abel Souto, Santiago Bernardo Brage Cendán, and María Inmaculada Valeije Álvarez. For Psychiatry, it is chaired by Ángela Juana Torres Iglesias, with Francisco Javier Vicente Alba, Antía Brañas González, Manuel Arrojo Romero, and Ana María Gago Ageitos.

Indefinite contract and appeal process

The associate professor contracts derived from this call have an indefinite duration, although they are terminated at the end of the academic year if the person ceases their main professional activity, in accordance with article 79.d) of the LOSU. Against the resolution, which exhausts the administrative route, an optional appeal for reversal may be filed within one month before the body that issued it, or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months before the Contentious-Administrative Court of Santiago de Compostela.

The call opens two ways of joining the USC for practicing professionals —lawyers and psychiatrists— who wish to combine their main activity with university teaching, with a fee of 44.17 euros per position and an application deadline of only ten working days.
