A Estrada exhibits the brotherhood agreement with the Rianxo City Council

The City Council of A Estrada submits for public exhibition the agreement adopted by its Plenary on September 3, 2026, by which the twinning with the City Council of Rianxo (A Coruña) is approved. The decision, adopted unanimously, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra (BOPPO) number 172, dated September 8, 2026, within the Local Administration section, under file 4229/2026.

The objective of the twinning is to strengthen the cultural, historical, and social ties between both localities, promoting joint initiatives that favor mutual knowledge and the development of projects of common interest. The agreement is transcribed literally in the gazette for public knowledge.

Processing of the agreement

The file followed an administrative path prior to its plenary approval, based on the Municipal Regulation of Honors and Distinctions of the City Council of A Estrada, approved in the plenary session of May 7, 2026, and published in the BOP no. 88, dated May 12, 2026. The documents that supported the proposal were:

• Justification report signed by the delegated councilwoman for Culture, Ms. Lucía Seoane Rosende, on August 13, 2026.
• Order from the Mayor’s Office dated August 14, 2026.
• Secretariat report dated August 14, 2026.
• Resolution proposal PR/2026/1522, dated August 14, 2026, issued by the Mayor’s Office-Presidency.
• Favorable opinion from the Information Commission for Culture and Sports, in the session of August 19, 2026.

Content of the agreement

The plenary agreement establishes four fundamental points to formalize the twinning:

• Approve the twinning between the councils of A Estrada (Pontevedra) and Rianxo (A Coruña).
• Forward the agreement to the City Council of Rianxo to institutionally formalize the twinning.
• Publish the agreement in the Official Gazette of the Province and on the City Council’s Notice Board.
• Jointly formulate a twinning protocol, which will be signed in an institutional act on October 19, 2026.

A symbolic date

The signing of the protocol is scheduled for October 19, 2026, a date chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the birth of Virxinia Pereira and her marriage to Castelao, a central figure of Galician culture and historically linked to Rianxo. This symbolism reinforces the cultural and historical character of the twinning between the two councils.

The public exhibition of the agreement allows the residents of both councils to know the terms of the twinning and its execution calendar. The final formalization, scheduled for October, will open the door to joint projects of common interest between A Estrada and Rianxo.
