A Deputación de Pontevedra reparte 685.700 euros entre deportistas de elite

The Deputación de Pontevedra has granted 685,700 euros in grants for high-level sports and sporting talent in the province for the year 2026, within the call DE_D/26. The list of beneficiaries, including names, federations, type of grant, amounts, and municipality of residence, is published in the Boletín Oficial da Provincia de Pontevedra (BOPPO) number 205, dated October 23, 2026, in the Local Administration section. The list includes more than 500 elite athletes and sporting talents spread across more than thirty municipalities.

The publication is made under article 18 of Law 38/2003, of November 17, general law on subsidies, and article 12 of the General Subsidy Ordinance of the Deputación de Pontevedra. The announcement, signed by the provincial Sports Service, collects the subsidies granted during the month of October 2026 and details that the program is aimed at “families and non-profit institutions, scholarships for elite athletes of the province.” The budget application is 26/340.3400.481.01.

The call has an immediate precedent: the provincial plenary session of September 15, 2026, approved the specific modification of the second paragraph of the Third Base (Financing) of the regulatory bases for these grants, under file 2026010733. That agreement paved the way for the resolution now published, which closes the granting process for the fiscal year.

Three categories and eleven amount levels

The grants are organized into three provincial categories, each with several economic levels according to the sporting recognition achieved. The gross amounts per person are as follows:

  • DEPO_DAN: 2,400 euros at level A1, 1,500 euros at A2, 1,080 euros at A3, and 600 euros at A4.
  • DEPO_DAN+: 3,300 euros at level A+1, 2,200 euros at A+2, 1,650 euros at A+3, and 1,100 euros at A+4.
  • DEPO_TALENTO: 1,380 euros at level B1, 920 euros at B2, and 575 euros at B3.

All lines carry a 15% withholding for IRPF (Personal Income Tax). Out of a gross amount of 685,700 euros, the withheld amount totals 102,855 euros, meaning the final grant that the beneficiaries will receive totals 582,845 euros.

The names on the list

The nominal list occupies several pages of the bulletin and combines established athletes with new talents. Among the highest amounts, corresponding to level A+1 of DEPO_DAN+ (3,300 euros), are:

  • Juan Ferrón Gutiérrez, swimming, Vigo.
  • Susana Rodríguez Gacio, triathlon and modern pentathlon, Vigo.
  • María Santomé, canoeing, Cangas de Morrazo.
  • José Javier Piñeiro Budiño, canoeing, Cangas de Morrazo.

At level A+2 (2,200 euros) appear, among others, fencer Judith María Rodríguez Menéndez, chess player David Fernández Lago, and adapted athlete María Victoria Alonso Vilariño, all three from Vigo. In A+3 (1,650 euros) are cyclist María Milagros López Vernet (Baiona), canoeist Celso Martínez Veras (Vilaboa), and table tennis player Martina Sande Martins (Vigo).

At the maximum level of DEPO_DAN, A1 (2,400 euros), are listed skater Xiana Fernández Fernández (Baiona), canoeist Manuel Fontán Señorans (Vilanova de Arousa), judoka Laura Martínez Abelenda (Vigo), and canoeist Elena Gómez Millán Herrero, a resident of San Juan de Aznalfarache. In the talent category, Carla Gilsanz Iglesias (skating, B1, 1,380 euros) and Iria Ludeña Pérez (canoeing, A3, 1,080 euros), both from Baiona, stand out.

Canoeing, lifesaving, and skating, the dominant federations

By discipline, canoeing is the federation with the greatest presence on the list, followed by lifesaving and rescue, skating, handball, athletics, taekwondo, rowing, and gymnastics. There are also grants for adapted sports, sailing, cycling, fencing, judo, wrestling, badminton, table tennis, equestrianism, orienteering, mountaineering, boxing, kickboxing, and muay thai, among other modalities.

The territorial distribution is led by Vigo, which concentrates the highest number of beneficiaries, followed by municipalities from the estuary and the interior such as Pontevedra, Cangas de Morrazo, Redondela, Baiona, Bueu, Moaña, Marín, Vilagarcía de Arousa, A Estrada, Lalín, Tui, and O Porriño. The list also includes athletes registered outside the province, such as Boiro, Santiago de Compostela, and San Juan de Aznalfarache.

The closing of the process comes after the regulatory bases were tweaked in the September plenary, an adjustment that affected the funding of the call. For clubs, families, and athletes, the announcement represents the official confirmation of the amounts they will receive and allows them to plan the season with the economic support already resolved.
