The Provincial Council of Lugo begins collecting fees in 14 municipalities.

Por FactBox Admin

The Provincial Council of Lugo started this Friday the voluntary payment period for the fees for water supply, rubbish collection and sewer network of 14 municipalities in the province, open from 14 August to 14 October 2026, both inclusive. The notice is published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Lugo number 185, of 14 August 2026, by means of the collection announcement R. 2037, signed by the president of the Provincial Council, María del Carmen López Moreno. Once the deadline has passed, the debts will be enforced through the enforcement procedure, with the surcharges of the executive period and the corresponding late-payment interest.

Management corresponds to the Tax Management, Collection and Inspection Service of the Area of Economy, Collection, Finance and Special Accounts, which collects the periodic assessment rolls on behalf of the municipalities. The announcement is based on articles 24 and 25 of the General Collection Regulations, approved by Royal Decree 939/2005, of 29 July, and on Law 58/2003, of 17 December, General Tax Law. The same bulletin publishes the collective notification edict R. 2216, which opens a period of fifteen days to consult the assessment rolls at the service headquarters, at Ronda Muralla 140 in Lugo, and in the corresponding municipalities, with an appeal for reconsideration within one month.

Municipalities and taxes affected

The list of taxes and municipalities covers 14 assessment rolls; Muras and O Páramo appear in two rolls each, for different taxes:

  • A Pontenova, Baralla and O Incio: the fee for water, rubbish and sewerage, and the water levy of the Xunta de Galicia (2nd quarter of 2026).
  • Muras: municipal water supply and water levy (annual 2025), and the fee for collection of urban solid waste (year 2025).
  • O Páramo: municipal water supply and water levy, and the fee for collection of urban solid waste (2nd quarter of 2026).
  • Lourenzá and Pol: fee for collection of urban solid waste (2nd quarter of 2026).
  • Navia de Suarna: rubbish collection fee (2nd quarter of 2026).
  • O Saviñao and Samos: rubbish collection fee (1st half of 2026).
  • Folgoso do Courel: rubbish collection fee and sewer network (1st half of 2026).
  • Trabada: fee for the rubbish collection, treatment and disposal service (3rd quarter of 2026).

How and where to pay the receipts

Payment can be made at any office of ABANCA, CaixaBank, BBVA, Banco Sabadell, Caixa Rural Galega and Banco Santander, on working days from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., presenting the payment document sent by post to the taxpayers’ address.

Anyone who does not receive or loses the document may request a new one at the office of the banking entity and also make the payment.

  • Payment may also be made at ATMs, via internet and electronic banking, at the Provincial Council’s Electronic Headquarters (Taxpayer Portal) or by postal money order at Correos.
  • Payment can be domiciled for successive years by filling in the form accompanying the collection document and sending it to the Tax Management and Collection Service or delivering it to the corresponding entity.

What happens if not paid

Once the voluntary payment period has elapsed, debts will be enforced by the collection procedure and the surcharges of the enforcement period and the late payment interest stipulated in articles 26 and 28 of Law 58/2003 will be payable, as well as, where applicable, the costs of the proceedings. As regards the water levy and the discharge coefficient, failure to pay will imply its direct demand from the taxpayer through the enforcement procedure by the regional ministry responsible for finance of the Xunta de Galicia, with the possibility of an economic-administrative appeal before the body of the Autonomous Community within one month.

The joint publication of the edict and the collection notice has the character of a collective notification, so that all taxpayers included in the tax rolls are informed of the deadline and the payment conditions. With two months ahead to pay the receipts without surcharges, the Provincial Council of Lugo is launching one of the collection campaigns that each year affect a large part of the municipalities of the province, with an express warning that non-payment will activate the enforcement route.
