A Cañiza puts the increase in the waste tax out for public exhibition
Por FactBox Admin

The Plenary of the Cañiza Council provisionally approved, in the ordinary session of October 16, 2026, the modification of the fiscal ordinance regulating the fee for the collection, treatment, and disposal service of urban solid waste. The agreement was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra (BOPPO) number 204, on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in the Local Administration section, with the official reference 2026074209. Starting the day after publication, a thirty-day period is open to examine the file and submit claims.
What changes and who decides
The approved modification limits its scope, according to the official announcement, to a single operation: “The Price Annex is modified” of the ordinance regulating the municipal waste fee. That is, the change affects the amounts paid by the tax-obligated subjects for the collection, treatment, and disposal service of urban solid waste, although the edict does not detail the new rates.
The body that adopted the agreement is the municipal Plenary, in its ordinary session of October 16, 2026, and the document is electronically signed by the mayor, Luis Antonio Gómez Piña. The announcement carries the secure verification code 2KYOP4Y9C6QVLM37.
The processing is based on article 17.2 of the Recast Text of the Law Regulating Local Treasuries, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, of March 5, which requires the submission of fiscal ordinance modification files for public information before their final approval.
Thirty days to appeal
The open procedure is specified in several points:
- Public information period of thirty days, counted from the day following the insertion of the announcement in the BOPPO.
- The file can be examined at the municipal offices of the Cañiza Council.
- It is also available on the municipal electronic headquarters, at caniza.sedelectronica.es.
- During this period, any interested party may formulate the allegations they deem appropriate.
- If no claims are submitted, the agreement will be considered definitively approved.
A joint review of several fees
The waste fee is not the only one that the Plenary of Cañiza reviewed in the same session on October 16. Along with it, the BOPPO of October 22 publishes other announcements of fiscal ordinance modifications with the same thirty-day public exhibition process:
- The fee for the supply network service, whose price annex is modified for CPI updating (reference 2026074211).
- The fee for the water supply (reference 2026074217).
- The fee for the occupation of municipal public use land with tables, chairs, stands, platforms, and analogous elements for profit purposes (reference 2026074213).
On the same date and by the same plenary agreement, the City Council also published the initial approval of the 2026 General Budget, the execution bases, and the personnel annex, with a public exhibition period of fifteen business days (reference 2026074249).
Impact for residents and businesses
The waste tax is one of the most widely applied fiscal instruments in the municipal sphere: it affects households as well as commercial and hospitality establishments that generate waste. Any modification to the price annex is directly reflected in the annual bill, hence the relevance of the now-open period for submitting objections.
The announcement does not specify the new amounts or the percentage of variation, therefore the economic details must be consulted in the municipal file or on the electronic headquarters during the public information period. Until the close of this period, and provided that no claims are filed, the plenary agreement will be definitively approved and the new wording of the price annex will be applicable.
