109 positions in public education contests for decentralization in Chile

The Official Gazette of the Republic of Chile, in its issue 44,526, published on Monday August 17, 2026, disseminated the terms and conditions of two internal entry competitions for a total of 109 positions intended to staff the Local Public Education Services (SLEP) of La Quebrada and Reloncaví. These are notices from Section IV (Bids, Competitions, Summons, and Loss of Documents), issued by the Ministry of Education through the Directorate of Public Education.

What does the call correspond to?

The two published calls comply with article 38 transitional of Law No. 21,040, which created the Public Education System and established that the former municipal education departments had to be transformed into Local Services with their own staff. The regulation requires that the first officials be incorporated through internal entry competitions, restricting participation to those who had been performing functions in the municipal educational administration for at least three years before the transfer.

The first competition corresponds to the Local Public Education Service of La Quebrada, headquartered in La Florida, Metropolitan Region, and includes 53 vacancies (CVE 2856598). The second corresponds to the Local Public Education Service of Reloncaví, headquartered in Puerto Montt, Los Lagos Region, and includes 56 vacancies (CVE 2854124).

Profile of the positions and territorial distribution

Both competitions call for positions on the service’s staff, distributed across the professional, technical, administrative, and auxiliary categories, with grades ranging from 6 to 22. The positions are concentrated in key areas for the administrative functioning of the new local services:

La Quebrada (53 positions):

• 25 professional category positions
• 8 technical category positions
• 11 administrative category positions
• 2 auxiliary category positions
• 7 fixed-term contract staff positions

Reloncaví (56 positions):

• 27 professional category positions
• 8 technical category positions
• 12 administrative category positions
• 2 auxiliary category positions
• 7 fixed-term contract staff positions

The positions range from professional development coordinators for educational establishments to budget professionals, territorial management, infrastructure, school coexistence, information technologies, and general services personnel.

Who can apply?

In the case of La Quebrada, only those currently performing duties in the Corporación Municipal de La Florida, the Corporación Municipal de Desarrollo Social de Ñuñoa, and the Corporación Municipal de Peñalolén may participate. In the case of Reloncaví, the competition is open to staff of the Departamentos de Administración de Educación Municipal of Puerto Montt, Calbuco, Cochamó, Futaleufú, Hualaihué, Maullín, and Palena, as well as the Departamento de Educación Municipal de Chaitén.

In addition to the minimum seniority requirement of three years, applicants must meet the general requirements of Article 12 of the Estatuto Administrativo (DFL Nº 1-19.653) and must not be subject to the disqualifications and incompatibilities set forth in Articles 54 and 56 of the same regulation.

Deadlines and application methods

Applications will be received starting on the eleventh day after the publication of the terms and conditions in the Diario Oficial —that is, from August 28, 2026— and may be submitted in two ways:

• Through the online form available on the portal of the Dirección de Educación Pública (www.educacionpublica.gob.cl).
• In person or directly at the offices of each Servicio Local.

Applicants with disabilities who face barriers in the selection methods must notify this at the time of submitting their application, attaching the corresponding certificate from the Comisión de Medicina Preventiva e Invalidez or proof of registration in the Registro Nacional de la Discapacidad, in order to ensure equal opportunity measures in accordance with Law Nº 20.422.

Implications for educational decentralization

These competitions mark a concrete step in the implementation of the decentralized Sistema de Educación Público that Law Nº 21.040 has been rolling out. Staffing the new Servicios Locales with their own personnel —previously dependent on the municipalities— is a requirement for these bodies to fully assume their educational management, planning, and oversight functions in their respective territories.
